Pinehurst has earned its place among the elites courses in the world as host to three U.S. Opens and as a three time winner of Travel + Leisure Golf Magazine’s Best Golf Resort in America award. Moreover, it is hard not to think of the famed Pinehurst No 2 golf course without thinking of Payne Stewart, and vice versa. Payne’s iconic fist pump celebration of his 1999 U.S. Open victory there is captured in a statue that now faces the 18th green.
